Discovering HyphBot: Pursuing Our Ultimate Goal of Fraud-Free Advertising

As a leading ad-tech vendor, we have a duty to ensure that your advertisements reach your audiences in an unhindered way. In light of this, we remain dedicated to proactively pursuing Ad fraud in all of its many guises.

At the end of last year, we revealed that our outstanding fraud team had uncovered one of the largest bot-networks to hit digital advertising. While the impact of the network (entitled HyphBot) was significant, we are happy to reveal that due to our extensive internal anti-fraud tools the affect across our entire platforms was extremely limited.

HyphBot was identified using our in-house algorithms and expert analytics. We discovered that the network consisted of infected devices accessing the internet from more than half a million IP addresses (mostly from the US). These infected devices generated up to 1.5 billion requests a day on more that 34,000 different domains, including premium publishers. The bot-network was active through at least 14 different exchanges and SSPs, and within each SSP, multiple networks were infected.
